This course is designed to give the participant a relatively thorough introduction to dry needling in physical therapy.
In this online video presentation, the user will learn about the history of dry needing, clinical use in physical therapy,
impact of dry needling on the body, theoretical models explaining the possible mechanisms involved in the observed outcomes,
patient and provider safety with research integrated throughout.
Meet our Presenter:
Edo D. Zylstra, PT, DPT, OCS is founder and owner of Kineticare, in Brighton, Colorado,
where he focuses on manual therapy and dry needling for pain management. He is a board-certified clinical specialist in
orthopaedic physical therapy. Zylstra received his doctor of physical therapy degree and, earlier, master’s in physical therapy
degree from Regis University. He received his certification for dry needling from The Institute for the Study and Treatment Of
Pain (iSTOP) in Vancouver, British Columbia, and he has taken training courses in the Travell & Simons’ techniques for diagnosis
and treatment of myofascial pain and trigger points. Edo was instrumental in getting dry needling accepted as a treatment
technique within the scope of practice for physical therapists in Colorado, and he continues to do the same for other states.
In 2006 Edo developed and began instructing trigger point dry needling courses. He has taught over 250 courses internationally
and currently is developing more advanced techniques for the intervention.
