DESCRIPTION

American Sign Language for the Physical Therapist

This is an introductory course on American Sign Language (ASL) for use in a physical therapy setting. This course will cover a brief history of ASL as well as its implications in everyday use. It will make a special focus on using the language in a physical therapy setting. During this course, participants will also observe basic instructions and learn the building blocks of communication in ASL to a person who is deaf or hard of hearing. Ways to avoid making social faux pas when using ASL and otherwise communicating with a patient who is deaf or hard of hearing will also be discussed.
